Rural depopulation and subsequent urbanization are a global challenge. Rural areas compete with urban centers that are often perceived more attractive in terms of job opportunities, culture and living conditions in general.

Rural development targets improved living conditions in rural areas. Rural development in order to be sustainable requires trained experts. Universities in Russia and Kazakhstan are willing to face the challenge to educate much needed experts for improving living conditions in rural areas.

Sustainable rural development integrates economic issues, ecological aspects, socio-economic qúestions and knowledge about a broad scale of agricultural practices. Experts are trained that can bring these different fields together in an integrative and future oriented way.

This Knowlege Platform is a joint effort of participating Higher Education Institutions to provide basic and up to date information on rural development and their particular education programs.
